Her Majesty The Queen became the first British monarch to reach 70 years of service in February of this year. A variety of events and initiatives will commemorate this historic achievement throughout the year, culminating in an extended bank holiday from Thursday, June 2nd to Sunday, June 5th. These few days will bring people from all around the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth together to enjoy the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
We’ve put together a helpful Jubilee celebration checklist to assist you and your employees. So dust out your bunting, pull out your Union Jack flags, and prepare to chant “God Save the Queen.”
Here are some fantastic ideas to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee in style:
1. Organise an office party
There are so many wonderful Jubilee themes to select from, from afternoon tea to a kings and queens dinner to a truly British fish and chips celebration. Allow your imagination to run royal as you plan the best way to celebrate Her Royal Highness with your work colleagues. Don’t forget to dress up!
2. Decorate the workplace
There’s no end to the Jubilee-themed decorations available right now, from bunting to balloons to banners to garlands to miniature crowns for the team to wear. Do you have a limited budget? Simple DIY supplies like ribbon, lace, and paper could be used to encourage the team to build the decorations as a fun activity.
3. Bring in Food
When deciding what snacks and desserts to serve to your co-workers, think British. Coronation chicken and Victoria sponge cake are both foods with a royal theme, and red, white, and blue icing can give your workplace desserts a patriotic feel. Beef Wellington, pork pies, trifle, and Bakewell tarts are among crowd-pleasing British staples.
4. Encourage everyone to dress up
People all throughout the country will be dressed up for this huge event, from fancy dress and Union Jacks to dazzling dresses and smart suits. Everyone wants to look and feel great, and now is the time to encourage everyone to pull out their best efforts to mark the occasion.
5. Spend a day in London
Why not organise a team day out in the nation’s capital where the atmosphere is going to be booming with plenty of celebrations and activities taking place all across the city with everybody coming together for the occasion. Even just taking the afternoon off will be a great team bonding experience away from the office.
6. Organise some charity work
Helping out your local community by volunteering to do some charity work with your colleagues can be very rewarding and is a great way to get outside in the warmer weather for Jubilee week. Here at Virgin Incentives, we go out into our local area each month to do litter picking which has been very well-received by the team.
